Title: 1997 - THIRD RECORDING PROJECT DUNS SCOTUS CD
It is obvious from the title we named our recording company after our CD, Duns Scotus / New Age Symphony No.1 for Guitar, composed by Garialan Blugraye. A little excerpt from the liner notes you will better understand the wisdom of that choice: "I came to title this work "Duns Scotus" because of a long association with an old monastery of the same name. I romanced my Beloved there, composed music there, meditated and wedded there. "There" meaning the extensive grounds and lovely gardens our endless evening walks led us through. Duns Scotus was our place. It wasn''t until I decided to use "Dun Scotus" as a title for this CD that I became aware, for obvious reasons, I should know the meaning of the word Duns Scotus, which lead me to the encyclopedia where I found it was a person. The encyclopedia said: "Duns Scotus, John: Franciscan philosopher and theologian; b. Duns Scotland c.1266; d. Cologne, Nov. 8, 1308. He is known by the scholastic titles of "Doctor Subtilis", "Doctor Maximus", and "Doctor Marianus". After reading all that was written on the "Life and Works" of one whom I''ve come to call Marian Doctor a kinship developed that can only be described as Spiritual Kinů.a kind of memory that just dwells on the threshold, old and mystical. It seemed we had so much in common, for just meeting this stranger! He was a devotee of Saint Francis as I am, and fought hard to have included in future doctrine the Feminine aspect of God as Mother. The whole of Scotus'' theology is dominated by the notion of Love. "The characteristic note of this love is its Absolute Freedom. As love becomes more perfect and intense, freedom becomes more noble and integral both in God and man", I liked those words "Absolute Freedom" it said so much, and after all, he was a Scotsman!, and oh how I love Celtic music! I can''t say I was inspired by John Duns Scotus, but you might ask, did he inspire me? It has been said of this composition: "What is this music? Is it Classical? Is it New Age? While Musicologists may not have the answer, you will when you hear it!"
